Silt Traps And Catchpit Chambers

Turtle Enviro’s silt sentinel silt trap range is quickly becoming a staple element in the industry for sustainable drainage systems. We provide a wide range of options from this range including chamber depths ranging from 600mm to 2000mm, 110mm, 160mm & 150mm twinwall inlet options as well as heavy-duty silt traps for larger or commercial applications.

What is a catchpit?

A catchpit is a chamber that is installed underground, in front of a soakaway, that catches sediment in a bucket inside the chamber before it can proceed further downstream into an underground drainage system. Each catchpit chamber features a removable lid to allow for inspection and the ability to remove the sediment via a suction pipe, as opposed to a silt trap where debris is caught in a bucket that can be removed from the system and cleaned.

Is a prefilter necessary?

Prefilters are essential in any or sustainable drainage application as they prevent silt and debris from entering a soakaway crate. Installed upstream from the soakaway, a prefilter (usually a silt trap or catchpit chamber) will collect and prevent any silt or debris in the rainwater from moving further into an underground drainage system. This is especially important in soakaway applications, as soakaway crates can become blocked, highly reducing their efficiency, and leading to further problems over time.
