Soakaway Crates For Bio-Retention
In a bio-retention system, soakaway crates are installed beneath a shallow dip in the land made of permeable soil that will fill with water such as a pond. They are then wrapped in non-woven geotextile membrane. Thanks to their 95% void ratio and 935L storage volume per cubic metre, as water seeps through the soil and enters the soakaway below, it can be stored inside the soakaway temporarily.
This temporary water storage is what allows the stored stormwater to eventually be dispersed back into the soil at a controlled rate, which is crucial to keeping vegetation surrounding the bio-retention basin healthy.
